Our Lay Dominican Chapter chants morning prayer each time we meet on a Saturday morning. We follow the Divine Office or Liturgy of the Hours, as used by Priests, Religious and Lay People throughout the world. This is a form of Gregorian chanting.
The table below provides access to audio files for each part of Morning Prayer that is chanted. These are for the Saturdays of Ordinary Time and can be used to prepare to lead the liturgy. Choose the column of the week that you are leading and everything is described from top to bottom.
This form of the psalms is for use in the United States of America and is also often used in Canada. These tones have been chosen according to the sense and mood of the psalm. Acknowledgement and appreciation is given to Howard Hughes, SM, for these psalm tones.
Chant the psalms prayerfully, pondering each line. Do not hurry the psalms: take a prayerful pause after a psalm is finished, before beginning the next one. Take a prayerful breath. Similarly take a pause between all parts of the liturgy, with a long pause after the reading. We don't start or end with "In the name of the Father, etc." Instead, make the sign of the cross with your thumb on your lips during the Introduction and make a complete sign of the cross during the Conclusion.
